Louise K

the Louise K story

Louise Kodgoe (a.k.a. was born in a small town in Liberia into a family of stylist dating back to 3 generations. My greatgrandmother lived from styling hair into braids, which according to her was opposed in the early days but quickly became popular as it became practical to live without combing the often entangled black hair.

My mother had a family hairdressing salon in the suburbs of Liberia, and the daughters were assigned to various locations without pay. Whatever was earned become a family income. At the age of 16, I began to notice that most of our clients were the wealthy who live abroad and visit periodically. Most of them told about the scarcity of African hairdressers abroad and right then I had decided to be one of the first to open a salon abroad. I applied for the Migration Lottery and won a chance to live in the United  States. Upon arrival, I worked in my apartment and quickly established the LOISE K Brand.
